I’m Tired…

Aww, fuck it...
That’s right, tired. I’m tired not only of Sarah Palin and her silly-ass fake accent and aw-shucks shtick, I’m tired of John McCain and his Abe Simpson routine and yes, I’m even tired of Barack Obama. I’d be tired of Joe Biden, but I’m pretty sure he’s just been sitting at home most of the time since the convention, watching ESPN Classic in-between trips to the local Home Depot. I just want it to be November 5th, already.
It seems like every conversation I have had for the past year has in some way been about the election. Everything I’ve written has at least some twinge of politics in it these days, even my college football columns. Not only is Missouri a contender in the Big 12 North, led by their quick-strike offense, but they’re also a swing state. Sigh…
Everyone should pay attention to politics. From local county commissioners all the way up. It’s important, I think, to know what kind of people are representing you and your interests as a citizen. But now, after nearly two years of non-stop campaigning for President, I’ve gone beyond caring. I have a hard time both taking it seriously and making light of it at this point. I tried to scale things down and pay attention to local politics in recent weeks, to try to wash some of filth of the Presidential race off of me. It hasn’t worked. The senatorial race here in Oregon between Jeff Merkley (D) and incumbent Gordon Smith (R) has been just as dirty and underhanded as the one between McCain and Obama, if not more so. I guess my only choice at this point is to focus on city ballot measures…
I try to take a humorous approach to the world of politics in general. It’s the only way I can keep my blood pressure in check and stop from screaming profanities throughout most of the day. This has especially been true during this election. I understand that it’s important, but I’ve recently tried to take a more big picture approach at this point. We’ll all still be alive after the election, no matter who wins. We’ll all still have to wake up the next day and deal with each other in work and in society in general. We’ll still have our families and our friends. The world will continue to spin, grass will continue to grow and we’ll all get a little bit older.
This doesn’t mean that I’m beyond caring who wins. Far from it, as a matter of fact. But I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not threatening to leave the country if McCain somehow flubs his way to victory. It’s weird, the concessions we make when we stop caring.
That said, I’m going to take one last shot at making fun of this process tonight during the last Presidential debate. The boys (and girl) over at Sodblog and I will be trying desperately, through a haze of alcohol, take-out pizza and legal and illegal drugs to make sense out of the two candidates. Okay, we’re just going to make fun of their hair and mannerisms and try to find any hint of a dick or fart joke in the non-committal dribble that they’ve been coached into spewing for 90 minutes.

Democrats too now can learn from the Canadian elections .. no party won cause they really did not care about the voters, but only about winning themselves http://anyonecare.wordpress.com/2008/10/15/canada-harper-failed-again-in-an-attempt-to-win-majority-government/
